The grey wolf has long been a symbol of Latvia’s wilderness. Highly adaptable and incredibly cautious, wolves live in family packs and can travel dozens of kilometres in a single night while patrolling territories that often span hundreds of square kilometres. Their ability to avoid human activity, combined with exceptional senses and constantly changing movement patterns, makes every successful hunt a true achievement.
Latvia is home to one of the healthiest wolf populations in Europe, with approximately 1,300 to 1,500 wolves. The population is monitored throughout the year using harvest data, genetic analysis, camera traps, track surveys, and field observations. Based on this scientific data, annual harvest quotas are established to ensure the species remains at a favourable conservation status while helping reduce conflicts with livestock farming.
For hunters, success starts long before opening day. Scouting fresh tracks, identifying travel corridors, locating crossing points, and understanding pack behaviour are all part of the process. Every detail matters, and every hunt is different.
